It wouldn't surprise me now with Keyes likely out for the season.

Don't think he figures in our plans any more, which is why Wire have kept hold of him. He's unlikely to get much game time there, so I'd have thought they'll be looking for a home for him to continue his development.

Genuinely depressed me this morning did this news

Does seem a bit of an odd one, to have a contract clause that allows you to move mid-season to another championship club.

Luke Brooks is playing brilliantly now. The Wests Tigers are in a resurgence. Coach Tim Sheens has stated that he wants to re-sign Luke Brooks.

Sorry to be blunt, but you do need to keep up.

Shame. Always hoped he'd join the chooks.

Saints sitting on a couple of resignings; Mata’utia 3 years, Wingfield 3 years, Sironen 2 years, Delaney 2 years. Believe they’re waiting on Hurrell to sign before they get announced.

As already posted, with Clark and Whitley coming in, most of the pieces of Saints puzzle are in place next year. Hope we can add a winger and a project prop for Hopoate and Norman.

Ritson not good enough?

Difficult one. I’m 50/50 on him. He doesn’t do a lot wrong with the ball in hand but doesn’t see huge amounts of ball because our right side is where our attack predominantly goes down. Defensively, I have my reservations based upon things like his positioning, as shown with the last try last night. However, I haven’t seen a lot on the market on these shores that really offer anything different so I would probably be inclined to give him another year.

I’d be after another Centre, personally. Hurrell can have one more year but he will be 32 by February next year, Percival’s injury record is not the greatest and Will Hopoate will, hopefully, be gone, so it leaves us weak in that area with not a lot coming through the academy in that position at the minute. Percival hasn’t made more than 20 appearances in six of the ten seasons since he debuted and Hurrell will be another year older so I think we need a centre a lot more than a winger.

Is Whitley definitely going to saints?

I’ve heard that’s done as well but haven’t seen anything official yet. Assuming they can’t be announced until a certain date.

I think the thing is when Saints sign players from the lower leagues they tend to get a year or two out of the limelight to hone their craft in training and have to wait for their chance. This was the model for both Bentley and Batchelor. I would have no issues with Ritson doing the same whilst covering injuries, but as you say his positioning in both attack and defence let him down massively at the moment. It was one of Graces big problems when he broke through as well, so I have no doubt the coaching staff can sort it, but it’s going to take time he doesn’t have being in the team every week. It’s the most obvious place to spend money to improve the team.

if I play fantasy manager you could kill two birds with one stone and sign Averillo from Bulldogs, he’s rapid and good enough to only be leaving due to the bulldogs insane recruitment attempts, and plays wing centre and fullback.

don’t be surprised if Saints start bringing through some of their young centres. Bruines has been ripping it up in the reserves, and both of Lancashires u18s came from Saints as well, with Robertson in particular tipped to go far.

I’m just going off what Sione was telling people in the bar after the derby. He also said he wasn’t moving to prop permanently as well, which raises a whole load of other questions about why we have signed Whitley but that’s a different conversation.

Also thought Peter had confirmed he was retiring at the end of the year

That’s one of the reason he’s going because saints want him to move to prop and he doesn’t.

Again just what I’ve heard but Wire will give Peter 2 years if Sione signs. We’ll see how it plays out maybe Saints will back down over him playing prop but as you say why sign Whitley then.

Someone better tell him that then as its not what he's told Saints !!

He initially told them he was looking at going home to Aus but he didn't get any really good contract offers so he then told Saints he would stay if no NRL contract offer came in. I know Saints have made him an offer already so its just a case whether he's decided to take it or not.

Anyway I thought Wire were signing Convict Matt Lodge for next year ?

Announcement 1 done; https://www.saintsrlfc.com/2023/06/12/curtis-sironen-signs-saints-extension/?swcfpc=1

Really rate Sironen as the best backrower in the league so made up with this.

I think Sironen is a cracking player and Saints have done well to keep him, he always impresses me every time I see him play. He js one of those typical Aussie second rows, hard working, a bit of niggle, strong technically and he just does all the little things right.
