dkw Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Ex Salford hooker Malcolm Alker has passed away at 45, very sad news. 1 9
Damien Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Geez, this is a real shock. As a player he always gave his all and was a loyal servant to Salford. Obviously he had his demons after retirement but I know a few people that knew him well in his younger years and they could never speak highly enough of him and in his young St Pats days he was a fitness fanatic who was mad about making it as a professional. RIP. 6
Pie tries Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Very sad news. Seems to have had troubled times after playing career ended. Far too young and very sad 3
Nate90 Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Rest in peace Malcom. What a troubled soul he seemed to be but also what a hard working , outstanding number 9 who never took a step back whilst playing for Salford. 3
tonyXIII Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Shocked to read about this. R.I.P. Malcolm. A Salford legend. 1 Rethymno Rugby League Appreciation Society Founder (and, so far, only) member.
Rene_Artois Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Really sad news. Great player and leader who stood out in an excellent Salford side. R.I.P. Malcolm. A player I will always remember fondly. 1
Futtocks Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 That's an awful shock, even though his troubles were common knowledge. Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted. Ralph Waldo Emerson
gingerjon Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Devastating news. RIP Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. (Terry Pratchett)
daz39 Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Sad news, way too young, he was a cracking player. Thoughts with everyone connnected with Salford and of course his family and friends. Red Willow Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Sad news gave so much as a Salford player. Including playing within 10 days of his appendix op. He had demons all his life. His family were all as mad as a box of frogs, all names starting with M if I recall, Malc, Marlon, and I can't think what the other was. 2

So sad.

slowdive Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 Really sad news. "At times to be silent is to lie. You will win because you have enough brute force. But you will not convince. For to convince you need to persuade. And in order to persuade you would need what you lack: Reason and Right."
Red Willow Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 Interesting according to Wilkin, Malc was one of the first to advocate for mental health for players in the England set up and was dismissed out of hand. 2

moorside roughyed Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 RIP Malcolm Walker. Always sad when we lose one of our own.

StandOffHalf Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 RIP; I enjoyed watching that Salford team that Alker was a leader of. They played an attractive brand of football and were plucky underdogs that were easy to root for. Gone too soon. 2
Red Willow Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 A MESSAGE FROM THE ALKER FAMILY - Salford Red Devils 1
Angelic Cynic Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Amazingly prescient reading the news concerning Batley Bulldogs on the BBC website News section, while silence seems to be the plan from officialdom. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/drugs-will-be-killer-18534404 No reserves, but resilience, persistence and determination are omnipotent.
idrewthehaggis Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 To pass so young is deeply sad. Malcolm was a star. Excelling the very qualities you'd desire in a player. A fine recipe of talent, skill, determination, and honesty. He was central to me returning to RL in the noughties due to his integrity on the field. Thank you fella for the memories. 1
del capo Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 According to St Pats facebook page Malcolm Alker's funeral is at Wigan Parish Church in the town centre at 11am this friday 2nd feb followed by a gathering at the rugby club itself afterwards. All welcome. 1
