  1. 1. A question on another thread has sparked the age old question. When it comes to a match between your rivals and a foreign team, who do you support? I'm not talking games against Catalans/NZ Warriors in the league because that's a no brainer but matches where your rival represents your teams league. Vote above!

Is there a Switzerland option? I went to the WCC and knew for the good of the game that Wigan needed to win, but there was no chance I was actively going to want them to win.

This is essentially a WCC type situation and yes I'll always support the English team as its so important for the English and international game. I was delighted when Saints beat Penrith last year as it helped improve the standing of SL and dispelled a good few myths.

Well, I cheered on Catalans v Saints last night. But would cheer Saints on vs any NRL team.

I suppose if we were dominant against NRL teams tho I'd soon go for them over Saints.

Yup, I admit it, I was cheering on Saints and Wigan in their respective WCC games against Penrith. It felt good at the time but now, well, the shame still haunts me! 😉

It’s unlikely to happen these days but I’d say anyone but Bradford

Anyone but Saints. Simple as that.

I thought that prior to last year's WCC but once the game got underway I soon switched and got behind them and enjoyed the game and result.

This world was never meant for one as beautiful as me.

Anyone but Leeds for me but, i'm starting to mellow a bit as they've now become a home for players that were never quite good enough for a mediocre club like mine which i think is a lovely thing to do considering they could have carried on winning leagues and cups etc but forsake all that to give below average players a chance to still play Rugby League at a high level, bless the fat unicorns.....

Nah forget that, still anyone but Leeds!!

Ok. Choose between a Yorkie team and a foreign one.

You missed my point…to me yorkie teams are foreign. Canberra or Castleford both foreign. Probably choose Castleford cos its nearer the beach.

Currently 24 votes each. Interesting.

I think if this was football it would be heavily weighted in favour of foreign teams. For example, I can't imagine many Sunderland fans wanting Newcastle to win the Champions League. Likewise Norwich/Ipswich, Sheff Wed/Sheff Utd, etc.

That makes me wonder - are RL fans more interested in the 'greater good of the game' than football fans? Or is it more that there isn't an equivalent to the Champions League in RL? Does the WCC carry the same prestige to individual clubs as the CL does in football? Or is it more about SL showing that it can compete with the NRL, hence the reason why many people would support their main rival against the Aussies?

The above then got me thinking, have they ever thought about having a yearly competition with several SL and NRL teams involved? Say the top four from each league from the previous season competing in a Champions League type event?

100% yes, rugby league is too small to have teams floundering.
