Whitehaven in financial trouble

The answer is all of them. I guess the question should be changed to 'how many clubs could be sustainable without a wealthy benefactor'. Again the answer is all of them (providing they live within their means).

Wakefield seemed to in the Carter days. Had they spent money they didn't have, they might not have been relegated last year. I'm sure others must act the same, and not gamble.

It's not, workington are in the black with a sensible board with no rich backer. Had to cut the cloth.

This. But that’s one club who rolled the dice on living within their means year after year until they ran out of road. Then seamlessly brought in new money. Which is the jackpot.

but, as a Trin fan - used to the jibes from fans of other clubs who faced less of a battle to get a new ground - I will say that the Carter years might be replicable by everyone, but the recent developments probably aren’t. If Trin had come to the end of SuperLeague without Ellis standing by then it might have been ‘well he kept them alive as long as he could…’

i really think Wakefield history is going to be (and I think deservedly, I’m distant enough to have stayed a fan) kind to Michael Carter. But to quote the Duke of Wellington, it was a damned close run thing.

What if Whitehaven were to voluntarily drop down to League One and start a rebuilding process?  Would this help or hinder their long-term chances of survival?  I believe for League One it would be a great thing!  Not sure if it would be in Haven's best interests though.

It is probably their level had less than 400 attend this season against Toulouse.

A couple of things stick in my mind that about Carter. I was told that on more than one occasion Wigan turned up for academy games and he was out and about doing odd jobs, one time he was out painting and another he was out tidying a stand if I recall correctly. He may not have had bags of money but he obviously put an awful lot of time and I daresay money relative to his wealth into the club. He has to be applauded for that.

Same with football clubs, and I suspect rugby union also, professional sport has always been like that.

It's not a gamble worth taking. I suppose it depends on longer terms ambitions really. From a Doncaster perspective we have put a lot into the community engagement side and assisting the development of local clubs. Our ambition is firstly to become a strong championship club based on improving attendances and sponsorship and bringing more and more local youngsters to the club. It's nice to look around and see the crowd have such a demographic mix. Rant over. What was the question??

Jonty Gorley walked away from the club after yesterdays game.

No money now no coach.

Looking bad at the moment for Haven.

Kyle Amor has been appointed as their new coach with immediate effect !

I hope he is more committed to this than when he signed for Warrington and then realised he couldn't be arsed.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Did hear that last night, but very surprised to find out it's true

I think it’s cos he is costing them nothing. He already works for their main sponsor as a “brand ambassador” so I think they are paying his wages.

699 at the game ,that's well below what they need to break even and on top off that winning pay to pay out as well, the piggy bank will be well and truly empty.

Looked to be more than that there, not sure if that number includes the 150 free tickets that were donated by a sponsor.

Yes I would have guessed that 850 was closer to the mark, probably still not as many as they need though.

I wonder which new board members announced on Thursday made Jonty Gorley feel need to quit so suddenly? That's  what he made it sound like anyway...

This is the point in which they thank everyone for their contributions and announce new investors
