  1. It’s a sad fact that people enjoy kicking you when you are down, most follow clubs who have been in a similar position at some point during their existence, they profess to love our game yet knock the very essence of it , we need all our clubs to survive and prosper. Without them we have no game.

  2. Brilliant to mix with your lot yesterday noisy and great company , you nearly drank the bar dry but showed class and great respect when the presentations were made in the bar Class. And a great game to boot !

  4. It will lead to a closed shop in the professional game at the foot of what is now league one. I can see how a team outside SL becomes SL standard, I cannot see how any new team meets the requirements for what needs to be in place to join at the bottom.

  5. This is the problem with this division. A superleague or championship player would have served his ban much sooner because of the number of games played. Personally I think the cancelled West Wales game should count towards the ban. Not the players fault, nor the clubs, that they pulled out.

  6. Thanks for the concern Matey, but I will be giving Batley Pie a miss. The season I am really looking forward to is the one the season after next. A trip to Cornwall will be nice and Wales can be nice too.

  7. It's been said numerous times on this, and I'd imagine on other forums, the use of dual reg. players. The Oldham side against Rochdale was brilliant, but we had four dual reg. players in the side. These at the expense of lads who had trained hard for the club. The Wigan lads were undoubtably superb players and played a massive part in the Rochdale game. They then were called back and Littler had to re-enthuse those players left out, re-jiggle the team and try and instill his game plan. It's no wonder we got hammered in the first half, nobody knew what was going on and where they where in the game plan. If we continue with DR then players have to be part of the club culture for more than one game. We need our own players - but from where?

  8. We've seen some flashes of why so many teams have made a move for Cory Aston over the years, and a lot more flashes of why so many of those teams have let him go.

  15. They do say it. You don't need to make up conspiracy theories. If we ever get to 12 Cat As then the Superleague, or whatever it's called by then, will only be open to further Cat As. They say this. But many Tier 2 and 3 clubs will still vote for it either because they know it's a fantasy that their club will reach that level, or because they think the new model actually gives them a better chance of getting on. Some also think that by strengthening the top tier in this way we can start to rebuild media and commercial revenue which will benefit the whole sport. Some don't agree with this approach, or think it won't work. That's fine. But they're objecting to the facts that have been presented. There's no conspiracy here, there doesn't need to be. IMG are giving it to us straight.

  17. So, attendances......

  18. I think this is the one time the fans are absolutely not taken for granted.. hence all the points that are on offer for fan engagement etc.. While they dont get a say in how the sport is run this whole IMG project shows that, at last, they get the fact you need to engage with the fans to keep them coming along. If anything shouted "taking the fans for granted" its been the last 10-15 years of abject apathy from the RFL and many clubs towards the fans and just expecting them to turn up at games because its their club, and turning up for internationals because you have decided to put some on IMHO

  20. I agree it would be nice to have every last detail in the public domain, but then I'm interested in these sorts of things. It's the same with the debate about publishing attendances. However the clubs do have all the fine details in the handbook, so it may not be transparent to the fan, but it's totally transparent to the clubs. As for an impartial agency to adjudge, that's what IMG are doing. There's no hidden stitch up, as some like to suggest, it's all happening in plain sight of club management, which is why some of them are objecting. Not because they don't understand the implications of it, but because they do.

  21. I'm yet to be convinced this won't lead to a closed shop SL.Some on here seem to think this will be a good thing for the game but I am not one.

  22. on the flipside, surely anyone who doesn't vote for a system that demands standards from all clubs to allow the sport to put its best foot forwards isn't voting for the good of the game? These strong A clubs are all pretty much safe and can crack on with life anyway, many of the biggest improvements need to come lower down the table.

  23. So far it seems to be a consolidation move, rather than a growth one, so they're not obviously trying to hoover up new content like BT did when they arrived. Would signing rugby league make a big splash to help promote the relaunch? Perhaps, but I'm biased! Bidding for UK RL rights is less a question of resources - what they cost is tiny for all these companies, it's more a question of whether they think it's marginally worth it. What new customer base would TNT secure by bidding for RL? I think we'd need to show we were on the up and growing our audience in new areas for them to come in. But the rights costs are so low now there's little financial barrier to entry if they decide to do it.

  25. Some people .......... Anyone who's heard Liam speak on his Twitter interviews or post-match in the Royal Suite, will know that he is a clever guy who clearly knows his stuff and is determined to make a success of his coaching career. Why, then, would he take a poisoned chalice like Wakefield, who have zero money and look like they're heading for next year's Championship ............ which is exactly where we will be next year, with probably more chance of competing than Wakefield will have. Unless there's a multi-millionaire waiting to plough a fortune in to Trinity, I don't for one minute see Liam going there, WHEN he decides to move on......... WHY would he go there and effectively kill his coaching career before it's even begun ?? He's destined for bigger and better things than that ............but he's a job to do at Dewsbury first, and what a job he's doing so far !!!!

  26. Next season’s first priority should be to retain Lam, Asiata, Amone and O’Donnell. All I think are only contracted for this year. Lam in particular will have plenty of offers, given he’s not on the quota.

  27. Yes it's in the rules, but who is it designed to help the most, the team recieving the player's or the 'impoverished' SL clubs who have more player's than they can accomodate? Scrap it!

  28. Mine is just an opinion of many, but individual player welfare is not the RFL’s responsibility. Their responsibility is overall governance and laying out policy and direction for clubs, associations, charities to follow - all based on legislation, the latest medical advice etc etc. The RFL doesn’t and shouldn’t have the resource to deal with individual matters, no matter how tragic they are. That governance, direction and policy setting is where the RFL provides duty of care responsibilities.

  29. Never posted on another teams forum before - Fax supporter who inadvertently ended up sitting in the middle of a big group of York fans. Yes they were very loud, and sometimes a bit annoying - but generally the most enthusiastic and good natured away supporters I've seen in a long time - a credit to your club. Your team also deserves massive credit for sticking in it to the end without any regular halves or your fullback - and making Fax look decidedly ordinary.

  32. There are probably fans of every single sports club in the world who have got to the stage/age where they want to get off the annual treadmill of new designs and also have a quality garment to cherish. So every club should make a last few quid in merch from those fans and give them something great in return.

  35. Should fans have a say? In principle, absolutely. And I suppose they do through the pressure they can put on their club owners to reject them. That's not pie in the sky, see the way county cricket fans organised against the Strauss proposals and effectively killed them off. I haven't seen a similar effort by rugby fans, but then I think opinions are much more mixed. There was a fans consultation that many on here responded too, but it was pretty shoddy. But a formal say beyond that, I'm not sure. How would a "fans view" be determined? In the end, the number of season ticket holders at the handful of clubs at the SL/Championship boundary that are most affected by the proposals numbers in the few thousands. Should they be given some sort of veto? Not for me. As for the plan for the Bs. Well, it's being made clear what the criteria they need to improve are, so they know exactly what they need to work on, and what they have to achieve to make it into SL. Again, we might not see the rankings breakdown in minute detail as some of it will be commercially sensitive, but the clubs will and all the criteria are measurable, so there will be no grey area. IMG will be providing collective support in the areas of media, digital, broadcasting and branding which all clubs should be able to benefit from. Beyond that, I think it's just a case of clubs cracking on with it, with specific criteria goals in mind.

  36. Hi Fevrover , as far as I know it goes to a council planning committee in June. If approved work can then start . Funding is in place for a new (all seater) main stand and a general upgrade of rest of ground . Capacity will be slightly reduced to a little over 10k as a result of works carried out.

  37. The OP was asking about Super League stats, so they're all there. Every game since 1996 has been catalogued and uploaded. As far as 1895 to 1996 is concerned, the massive project to put the stats of every single match ever played and every single player onto the database is well underway, but takes time to get right before publishing.

  38. I don't think it was sorry, it's always been whoever has more points with performance being one criteria. I think there was a lot of misunderstanding at the outset but that was from journalists & clubs, from IMG they've been consistent throughout.

  41. So, let's compare a 5 to 10 year stint as a pro Rugby League player (maybe across multiple employers) with a PT instructor in a gym. Does the sport of Rugby League have a bigger obligation to provide any post employment support to the player than the gym does after the PT has left? I left a job in the private sector a few years ago after 19 years of service. I will list below all of the things they put into place to support me post service. 1.

  43. Seems about right for Rugby League. 4 Votes from Champ teams should be pretty easy to get as I imagine teams like Bradford/York/London who all have very little chance of normal promotion any time soon will see this as their best option and then it should be easy enough to pick up one more.

  44. I was happy to see your team gave up on that Phantom. It must do wonders for team spirit, can you imagine the lads confidence left out on Monday for the Bulls and then coach says I didn't need you last week, but you just might be good enough for me this week, I would tell him to "swivell". Even in SL my club have done it this season taking Shorrocks on "loan" from Wigan, which ever way it is dressed up it is still "DR" by any other name, I absolutely detest it. Scrap DR, it is abhorrent that teams playing for points on a league ladder should be allowed to do it, especially when prize money is at stake and even worse relegation, if we are to have "loans" between clubs make them a minimum of half a season or better still even a full season.

  48. Indeed , i had a share in a horse that suffered a fatal injury in a 6 furlong sprint . Racehorses get the best care and treatment bar the very odd aberration , the medical back up on racedays is second to none and theyre bred to run - and jump , and still do without a jockey . Racing is a fantastic sport , even better having even a tiny vested interest in it , massively popular spectator wise and just the best day out
