  1. I think at the point that some posts were made about Wakey and the state of the ground some 2- 3 even 4 years ago it had become somewhat of a "running joke" among the RL community after all the false dawns and lack of investment currently I wish Wakefield nothing but the best on and off the field and hope the improvements (that look great so far) benefit Trinity as a club and the game as a whole for years to come and applaud them for their efforts cant say fairer than that

  2. So Kev's interview intimates that barring a couple limping across the line we have signed 'the squad'. There must be a good number unannounced then, why? Good to see the club taking up some fans' suggestions on fund-raising but, as explained, it's going to bring in a drop in the ocean, 2,500 over 6 months? Is £2 a ticket enough? Should the cost go up as the prize money goes up? How about a 100 or 200 club monthly draw at a 5er a member or something similar? Monthly entertainment winter and summer in Ron's / outside, keep the beer sales turning over. Trying to help and prompt, not critcise, we want a club, we have to work.

  3. Fantastic news, and looks like he’s been given the go ahead from medical professionals as well. He’s such an 100% player and a good bloke.

  4. There are no sleeping giants in RL. There are, however, a few clubs who, with the right conditions, could replicate the smaller clubs in SL. That's part of the problem the sport faces.

  6. Great sponsor and joins ASUS as a blue chip sponsor of the club

  7. That was always the issue, getting money from Yorkcourt and a local authority that seemed to be happy not to put pressure on them to pay up. Anyway at least we have something now and with the extra funding Matt Ellis will be putting in our stadium will no longer be a problem. I will also add, it will also be owned by the club and we will not be second class tennants in soccer stadiums like quite a few others.

  8. We can smile and be humble. Let's face it, we weren't 100% convinced it would ever happen ourselves were we?? The jibes stung at the time, but we are on the up and punching our way forward.

  10. Absolutely, the best thing about it of course is that he's clearly on the mend and getting his health back, but if he's able to contribute on the field next year that will be a massive bonus.

  11. Good to see Josh has signed for next year, and looks like he is fit to resume playing. Very good news!!!

  14. If anything describes the, perhaps irreversible, shift in power in RL it's the RFL being rejected by Samoa and then asking the NRL-run IRL to ask the Samoans to change their mind. Even the sternest critics of the RFL failed to see this coming.

  16. Looks good on Youtube but doesn't everybody? i'm just concerned he's only played a handful of games at each club but apparently been playing University rugby inbetween. Mossop wasn't the same player last year and Hurst was only ok and he's a big lad (16 stone) and only young so we'll see.

  17. Why bother? Loop fixtures, in themselves are an abomination. And the reasons why they're absolutely necessary are pitiful.

  18. I think this could be a best of both worlds scenario. I would also like to see England play france as long as it doesn't compromise Frances chances in their own tournament (if that happens)

  19. This is the only way I see Samoa wanting to to tour England. They need to play Tonga next year. If they have a one off test before touring, Samoa will be happy. It's the one match they need to play every year

  26. A mid season game away in France and a series against Samoa would be a pretty decent year I'd say hopefully something comes of this. As for bookingstadiums, London, Elland Road or Etihad, and Newcastle would be my preferences but how feasible is it to book football stadiums during the season at less than 12 months notice ?

  27. Yes, I beg your pardon I may have got my RFL`s and ERL`s mixed up, but either way, Samoa tour next year, Ashes in Oz 2025, good prep for playing in Oz conditions for the following year`s WC and then inbound tours from OZ and NZ the following two years, sounds like a pretty damn good international calendar to me.

  28. That`s a really petty shot. Maybe the ERL will step up theirs. A couple of days ago you were saying the IRL has never been weaker than under Troy Grant, now we hear that he has convinced Samoa to reconsider touring next year for the sake of the development of Northern hemisphere Rugby League and given the paucity of viable options in your own backyard how important it is. Mate a little bit of credit where credits due wouldn`t go astray. Make it a ripping tour and maybe there will probably be plenty more.

  29. https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seasons/super-league-vi-2001/round-11/leeds-vs-huddersfield/summary.html Leeds RHINOS 52 - 46 Huddersfield GIANTS IIRC this game showed that lots of points isn't always entertaining.

  32. NFL redzone is great.. show whoever is within 20m of the line (redzone), sometimes multibox, if there is a big break in play they swap around.. it keeps you interested.. unless your team is actually on the other side at which point i'd switch over. The thing with so many other sports is they want to solve problems, all play at the same time, no issue how do we put something out that makes it work.. rather than "oh well we wont bother then". RL, to me, seems to have a real issue with problem solving, you can see it with big matches and things like streaming.. they dont like looking outside of the box

  33. You’ve clearly either not read the article properly or if you have you don’t understand what you have read. The article specifically mentions the attacker putting their head into the contact area. As for whinging by coaches, players and their pet media contacts when players are correctly penalised; carded and/ or banned then yes I will want the RFL to not back down but if you want to deliberately misunderstand just to have an argument then I will leave you to it

  34. Without knowing how much the RFL make from their own betting rights each year, it is hard to know if it is a good deal or not. I guess having IMG 'own' a part of the business they are trying to improve gives them even more incentive to increase popularity through betting, etc.

  36. If I was Fergie I'd be tempted to try and talk Ollie Greensmith into having a go in the second row. He has a very direct approach based on powerful running, and there's nothing wrong with having a couple of forwards in the pack who can handle the ball.

  37. @glossop saintwe know 2 exclusive sky games a week will be on traditional (linear) tv. We dont know about the other 4 but likely to be on App as a minimum. Sky might put some of these on main TV channels, small chance they are PPV

  38. Current stadium too big, ideal is something around 8,000. He’s been pestering the Marie (city) for better facilities away from matchdays. He says there’s a leak in the team gym - it rains inside. Wants to unite the first team, elite team and U19s more - they seem pretty separate. Wants more fans in so he can fully capitalise on merchandising opportunities. Many Toulouse people don’t even know about TO. Hopes to sign an NRL halfback to replace Josh Ralph. Bemoans the lack of game time for French players across rugby league - uses Cesar Rouge as an example. The club wasn’t ready for Super League or or off the field last season so he isn’t worried about more Championship exposure. It allows him time to professionalise more sectors of the club.

  39. Quite. Perhaps we differ, but my view is that the announcement/launch of SL back in 1995, is (whether you love it or hate it) it was badly presented, created conflict and animosity and got the whole project off on a fatally bad foot. Ditto licensing, and unless they start to do things more inclusively, ditto IMG.

  40. It looks to me based on what the club has said about only halving the spend this year that we've tried to frontload the squad with 13-15 high-end Championship quality players, split between retained players from last year's squad and the half a dozen or so new signings who were with SL clubs last year. That means we won't have much more to spend on back-ups unlike last year where we had plenty of quality players kicking their heels in the stands. But it does mean that we will probably be looking at a handful of lower-profile, cheaper players to fill out the squad for things like Cup games and as fringe players, and that we'll be using DR a fair bit in league games.

  41. Problem is NRL stagger the games. So one Thursday/Friday then 3 sat and a few Sunday. One after another so you can watch all of them live. SL basically choose to play all games concurrently so even if they do the product would be diminished by having games you could already have seen the results too.

  42. As opposed to what though? The All Stars? Yorkshire v Lancashire (God forbid)? The latter really would send the sport back to the dark ages

  44. If they can’t figure out how to do it they might get overtaken by a club that does. We then might end up with more teams that know how to do it in the top tier of the sport, meaning better run clubs.
