With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

The DL(S) method seems to be pretty good. Certainly way better than the nonsense we had before it.

can we change this thread to - obituary thread - people that we have ever actually heard of? if futtocks digs out any more Hungarian composers and part time acrobats from the sunday times section I will scream- now give me a russ abbott ,neil diamond or lee majors

I loved Neil Dimond, I loved that song he sang that was the theme tune from Boon, though I did prefer him when he was in PhD.

Where's the point in an obituary thread for people who aren't dead?

How do you see this working?

I guess we could send a private message each time someone dies to check if you have heard of them so we can post on the thread. 

Are you ok with that, it's quite a responsibility? What am I saying, I'm sure for the integrity of the conversation you will make it work.

I understand that the Times has a library of obituaries ready to print at a moments notice (updated prior to going to press, of course).  Why doesn't someone steal - or in modern parlance leak - a few of those?

And what about those like John Stomehouse? Do they get two mentions,?

Another site I use , we have a Stiff List for each year and there are more hopefull predictions of deaths than actual stiffs.

All newspapers have a store of obituaries for notable people. Sometimes the subject of the obituary outlives the author. My mum is (very) occasionally called on by the Guardian to do an obit for someone from her area/generation of music, but they tend to be "as it happens", rather than pre-written.

One of my friends works in the BBC archives department. There are many thousands of people for whom they have prepared clips for when they die.

This is true, I worked as a journalist in the late 90s and it was quite a big part of the preparation of newsroom activity to have material ready in the likely event of the passing of celebrities/dignatries considered newsworthy or relevant to the target audience.
