Well done Catalan. Absolutely and thoroughly deserved.

I couldn't quite get which side you were rooting for.

It takes wisdom to know when a discussion has run its course.

It takes reasonableness to end that discussion.

Just need a Wire win tomorrow ( complete with mass brawl and a load of cards ) followed by a nice quiet win for the Pards and all is well with the RL world 😉

Well done Catalan. Excellent performance in a cracking game. Tough match with plenty of good performances on both sides. But Catalan’s resolve and determination was immense. Well done to them again.

However, this board again has turned another match thread involving Saints into an unreadable mess.

Champion performance by Catalans tonight. That was defence that Saints prided ourselves on for some time and we’ve just been out-Saints’d by Catalans. Relentless, up in our faces, scrambled superbly and did everything to not concede. Thought Whitley and McIlorum were superb.

Saints were Saints of ‘23. Defence poor, discipline abysmal and poor tactics with the ball. Forced it with the ball too often and didn’t do enough to build pressure.

Very good, very gutsy win for Catalans that.

I enjoyed my starter of 'Saints are cheats'

My main course of 'the refs are bent' was delicious.

I just hope I have room for my dessert of 'they must still be on their way back from Australia'

Think I'll get the same next week, and every week forever.

Great win for the Dragons.

Quality all round nothing like 15 years + ago Lyon Gibbs Sculthorpe etc

P

that goes for most SL teams though

The home crowd jeering the referee at the hooter.

(Perhaps because he pinged them twice for offside, when it's traditionally only the once per game.)

Bizarre!

Saints fans have to be the absolute worst losers of any fans .....excruciating

Jeez, just watched the Catalans "forward pass" decision and it was an absolute shocker, Liam Moore was right alongside it, how on earth did he get that wrong?

It came backwards out of Mitchell Pearce's hand, no wonder Samkins was furious!

Catalan offside all game , should have been a card for the high tackle and for constant penalties on their own line.

Don't like booing refs and it isn't just this game things are slipping..

Anyone remember when a head contact was a yellow like the 2 against saints vs Leeds this season.

What happened to the team warning for repeat penalties, where the ref signalled with a winding arm signal.

Thought tonight was a very good match, entertaining and pretty high quality. I'm not sure it was obvious from TV but Catalans line speed was exceptional, as was their goal line defence and composure. I think the scoreline was a pretty fair reflection of how little there was between the two sides.

Over the last few years, we have been comfortably the best side in the league and if we played near or close to our best, we would win. The difference this year is that even where I thought we played very well, there are teams who are more than our match and better than us.

I was frustrated at our failure to kick the 2 with 10 to go. We had scored one try all match and decided that the easier option was go for two tries in the last 10 minutes, rather than 1 try and guaranteed penalty? It made no sense at all apart from sticking to a very strange rugby league convention that we don't kick penalties unless we can avoid it.

Perhaps with a little more pace out wide we could have nicked it but I'm not sure it would have been deserved. Catalans were outstanding tonight and sometimes you have to credit your opposition and accept that your best efforts weren't quite enough.

2/3rds of the season gone in 3rd position and semi in the challenge cup, do you somehow think you have a divine right to win things every year, and you wonder why some Saints fans are treated with disdain with their comments, on the whole they are playing well.

P

Gibbs didn’t play with either Sculthorpe or Lyon at Saints and in the case of Lyon was about 10 years apart.

Well said Chris, a realistic aspect of the game unlike some of your fellow Saint's fans efforts.

If Catalans had have lost that game right near the end it would have been so unfair. Saints are quite easy to mark if you can nullify their pack which Catalans did. Virtually everything from Saints is a Cunningham style down the middle with a drop off inside pass.
You can’t beat pace which Johnstone showed, he is great to watch in full flow with no Saints player getting near him. Saints must be the slowest side in the league but they went into the season that way.
We moved Bennison (a Fullback) onto the wing, and brought a lad in from Barrow on loan whom we didn’t know if he was ready or not. It feels as if Saints have done things on the cheap, Hurrell may be a fans favourite but i think he is average at best he is so unfit and ruddy clumsy. Saints need to start looking for another winger and a centre for 2024. I hope the signing of Whitley from Catalans isn’t going to be our make do centre for next year if we have injuries.
PS The ex Wigan hooker had a cracking game for Catalans(is that who it was?). I think Catalans have a great chance of winning the GF this season and going on last night they deserve it.
