  2. Over the years, we have all had loads of discussions about a) showing every game live and b) showing games on BBC/Channel4/ITV etc. I don't think we should understate how much progress we have made here. Clearly we have real challenges around the £££'s value that we are receiving, and I think there are complex reasons for that, but it does rather feel like we are starting to make the best of this changing environment. Deals are often sold as being revolutionary, but I genuinely think we may be at that point here.

  3. I can remember certain league matches being shown (1970s?), such as the Leeds v Cas Boxing Day game when they'd get 18,000 range crowds. Leeds was a popular fall-back for games as they had the undersoil heating and I can recall going to freezing cold league games at Headingley that were on Grandstand. The infamous Leeds v Halifax match with the dog on the pitch (K9) was also, I feel, a league game (possibly the lowest point of morale ever reached in our game). I think it was in the 80s-90s when they decided to only screen cup, JP/Regal and internationals. If true, this will be the best ever television season for RL. We forget or are too young to remember how awful RL was once treated. All games (bar CC final) were 2nd half only, the commentary was incomprehensible, no summarisers, no other channel broadcasters, and there was absolutely no context discussion. Relatively speaking, we have it incredibly good at the mo.

  4. So, just to confirm, we have the game having its highest visibility on mainstream FTA in decades, a credible deal with Sky, and all this? Looks awful. IMG are making mugs of us.

  5. Yawn... As you very well know the majority of the available scoring for 'community' is local population size and the value of a club's community work cannot be measured simply by their Foundation's turnover (another flaw in the grading system) but never one to miss an opportunity to bash Fev are you?

  6. It would be great if the BBC could put the Super League Show in the same time slot at 5.30 on Saturday evenings on the weeks when there isn't a live match being shown. It would help to hook in viewers in a habit forming way.

  11. Dane has just announced his retirement. His best years were behind him before he returned last year, but he was so good for us in his first spell, especially in 2019, probably playing the best rugby of his career. Thanks for the memories Chizz.

  12. Now up to the clubs to to make the most of this reach and visability

  13. Scores a bucket full of tries too , 20 last year in a struggling team. All the better teams in league one had an experienced player who controlled games like Sykes and Forster so we've added the missing piece.

  14. Cas is a tight little ground that looks packed and atmospheric on TV. There's no issues with going there.

  15. Yet another lovely touch from the club. . Sometimes it can be the small touches that make such a difference.

  16. I'm enjoying just ignoring IMG and focusing on what's going on the field. IMG is a farce and will ultimately destroy our game. Less I hear about that vulture company the better.

  17. Leeds live saying we’ve got a provisional agreement with Tom Nicholson watton to join a loan basis 6ft2 16 stone prop would be a good signing liked the look of him when I’ve seen him play

  18. This means we will have 15-20 live matches on mainstream BBC through the season. That absolutely should be game changing in terms of reach and visibility.

  19. Sky aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, that's for sure. They've moved away from the exclusive coverage approach to sport over the last 10 years. Just like when they show free matches on YouTube, it's the gateway drug.

  20. Frank Foster was an absolute legend of the game, fearless, and fully respected by all (players, opponents, fans, referees, journalists). I will always remember when he scored a long-distance field goal from 40 metres out against Great Britain at Watersheddings in the 70s. A mercurial character if ever there was one. Did we win that game, or was it a draw? Johnny Blair was another player I admired, probably the best kicker I ever saw in an Oldham shirt (I am too young to have seen Ganley play). Why JB only got occasional games was a mystery to me. I think he played stand-off or fullback, and Martin Murphy and Cliff Hill were the first choice options. Again, my best memory of him was a phenomenal drop goal from the halfway line at Knowsley Road when Oldham beat the Saints 8-7 in the 70s. I didn't go down too well with the locals, and they bricked our coach on the way home. Another fans favourite was Norman Hodgkinson, a winger who impressed tremendously in his first season only to lose all confidence the following term, when he couldn't even catch the ball. From hero to zero, it was tragic to see his downfall and he was never heard from again. Mick McCone at scrum half. A tiny, thin bloke who had the heart of a lion. When scrums were dangerous places to be. There was some great players at Oldham in the 1970s.

  21. Assuming this is true, no reason to believe it isn't at this stage... What superb news. Especially if there is a scheduled Saturday evening game. Irregular timeslots definitely didn't help channel4 coverage. Straight after the 3pm football is only a good thing surely...

  22. Presentation box with scarf, really nice pin badge, car sticker and message from Clint if I remember correctly. Wrapped ours up and gave them to the kids as an extra christmas present together with Knights shirts. Overall a great little extra that swayed me to buy our season tickets.

  42. The sainted Sir David Attenborough, back when he ran BBC2, created the Floodlit Trophy. The odd (to modern eyes) arrangement being that the BBC would show only the second half of each fixture. But that was a tournament, not a regular league fixture. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC2_Floodlit_Trophy
