Any idea who these investors might be? Fred Done has been mentioned in the past, and there was the local guy who was talking about securing the ground 12 months ago that came to nought?

It would seem that if there is an optimum time to buy, it is now, before the talent leaves, although either of the above are not likely to have made money by giving it away to lost causes, so perhaps the due diligence work is making the head decisions stronger than the heart in moving matters forward.

Interesting that King says this:

“We can sell to only four clubs – Castleford, Wakefield, Leigh and Hull, although that might change by this Wednesday following another RFL meeting,” King told League Express.

When Warrington have admitted that they have cap space and may be interested.

Why not just create another exemption and call it the "Salford exemption"? There's enough exemptions to render the salary cap meaningless anyway.

Potentially, but the likes of Watkins and Sneyd aren't quota players.

Hull & Cas don't have any quota space so it's not that. Huddersfield do but not mentioned. Warrington have cap space but not mentioned. That quote, as with most things Salford, doesn't add up.

Paul King does have a tendency to massage the truth quite considerably in his public statements on Salfords future, you only have to go back to the communications around the share issue and the promise of not selling players like Tyler Dupree, Brodie Croft, Andy Ackers etc.

Until the new owners are hosting a press conference at SRD i'll continue to take everything Paul King says with a healthy dose of salt.

All of which kind of begs the question why "catchment area" is an IMG metric in the first place.

I think it could be:

1. The simplest metric that is better than none.

2. Building in higher-order demographic metrics such as population density in the outer areas of a wider "catchment area" . As the cathment area is expanded, the density of fans reduces, possibly?

3. That it borrows from analysis methodology IMG have carried out previously for other projects.

Consultants re-hash content from one assignment to the next, so 3 is no surprise.

You could argue that it measures success in attracting local fans and/or potential new fans.

Or it's just more consultancy Emperors New Clothes.

just posting this here as its one of the more popular threads -and a little off topic - but has anyone heard from one of the more prolific posters on TRL in the last 3 weeks? DUNBAR  - unusual for him not to be contributing all over the board! gone on a world cruise maybe?

Forget Fred Done. He's a Manchester United fan and is in business to make money. He must feel he is getting value for money sponsoring RL because he has never had much interest in the sport. He doesn't throw money away.

Paul Rowley I reckon. Harry says he is minted.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

The total content of his most recent post. Should anyone be interested, it's quite easy to find who he was replying to:

"I commented on the article, not you personally. I am not interested in belonging to a site where insults are endorsed."

Any Due Diligence done might reveal more about the club and it's financial position than we have been told so far.

The DD should have been done based on the delays seen. The real question is whether any potential purchasers can cover the losses in the short term pending a full restructure.

Thanks , that makes more sense and explains his absence

He does seem a bit Del Boy. “This time next year…”

Hopefully the new investment comes in, quickly, and by people that know what they’re doing

On topic if Salford are “bought” then somebody will be taking on a large debt. To absorb that and put in to stay afloat which would be £1m+ needs deep pockets and passion. A cva is the route if agreed but is that a points deduction or a relegation. If I was coming in I would accept a relegation linked to a cva and build it back on a wave of support

Salford's debts aren't particularly large in the overall scheme of things. Relegation would be a crazy thing for a new owner to accept.

Hetherington talking a lot of sense here:

https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/leeds-rhinos-launch-salary-cap-dispensation-bid-as-salford-red-devils-crisis-takes-new-twist-4951555

As ever he sees the wood for the trees. Quite clear in his mind that Salford have been irresponsible, in contrast to other sides like Castleford who’ve made squad cutbacks proactively, but that we now need to think about what’s best for the sport not what would be a “fair” outcome (which let’s be honest is probably Salford going into administration)

It didn't bother Matt Ellis.

"Should" be the key word.
