LeytherRob Posted January 15 Posted January 15 50 minutes ago, yipyee said: Isnt that what people wanted Toronto to do in covid? Relocate all players to the UK for a year with no regard to visas etc.. And when they said no they were kicked out of the league.. Toronto were based in the UK already at Brighouse, they just flew out to Toronto for blocks of 'home games'. Covid travel protocols made international travel impossible They weren't kicked out, they basically had 2 options - complete the season entirely without home games(because getting to Canada was impossible at the time) or drop out. They opted to drop out to save costs.
LeytherRob Posted January 15 Posted January 15 This whole thread is pretty much a pointless debate because the chance to replace Salford went the second they were awarded the advance on central funding. There is absolutely no time to replace a team 3 weeks before the start of the year. As for the suggestion it could/should be Toulouse, well that's even more impossible when you consider the logistical nightmare of 1)uprooting players across the continent, 2)championship clubs having to cancel the flights they've booked to Toulouse(including any Toulouse have booked) and 3)SL clubs having to scramble last minute flights to Toulouse for which 4)Toulouse would have to be inserted into Salfords exact fixture list to avoid disruption. There are 2 choices now, Salford limp through the season on a mix of their reserves, cobbled together loan and cheap players hoping they get bought before their inevitable relegation or they drop out and 11 complete the year. 3

ghost crayfish Posted January 16 Posted January 16 The shame of it is it would've been a good call to make when IMG did their gradings last year - if only they'd considered a team going broke to be relevant! - but it's too late now and I don't think it'd be the right thing to do by Toulouse. They haven't had the chance to recruit, plan or train for a season in Super League and it's hard to see players based in Manchester being happy to just relocate to France immediately. Talk about setting a club up to fail!

This whole thread is pretty much a pointless debate. You're right. Exactly right. An opportunity for people to air their predjudices (mine being a suspicion that there'd be a push from certain quarters to rehabilitate Bradford) despite the rules being clear. March 2025 and the lunatics have finally taken control of the asylum.

It wouldn't be about being competitive on the field, it would be about the IMG gains they can make - crowds, digital, media, turnover... It's been said Salford would suffer huge defeat's, wouldn't that be the case with Fev,York Bradford or any other team ? 5
The Art of Hand and Foot Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Tbh, this has been a senseless excercise. Nothings going to happen. They may end up bottom of SL and be relegated. However, should they need to drop out of SL sooner then the real option is to replace them with a champuonship team from greater Manchester. One that's on the up, with a suitable stadium, easy access, a pathway for youngsters, a good community set up etc. Of course it's daft, but less so than a French team. 1 1 1

Agbrigg Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Bradford pitch is not within the rules, teams having to play on that in SL would make an even bigger mockery of the competition. No other professional sport would allow a facial situation as that. 3
Trojan Horse Posted January 16 Posted January 16 (edited) I’d much rather York be given the chance. I suspect they will be better placed than Toulouse in the next gradings end of this season as Toulouse’s average crowds drop off probably putting them well below 3k. They only just get over 2k I believe which I don’t think is sustainable. It will be Bulls or York coming into SL 2025. Finishing positions and 1895 could be the difference between them! York have been steadily improving for a few years now on and off the pitch. They’re a club who could be a viable option for SL. Edited January 16 by Trojan Horse

I would look at Oldham as logical, they can take all the squad with little disruption also they will have already been paid for 3 months wages so the reduction in funding can be absorbed year 1, unlike how Leigh were shafted they must be free from relegation if the terms are accepted
