Paul Darrow was an absolute legend and I’ve been fortunate enough to see him twice on stage, once playing the title role in the Scottish Play, and the other playing Sam Vimes in the stage adaptation of Guards Guards!

obviously I’ll always remember him as Kerr Avon but he was a great actor outside of that and could light up the stage.

Just saw that, very sad news

English, Irish, Brit, Yorkshire, European.  Citizen of the People's Republic of Yorkshire, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom and the European Union.  Critical of all it.  Proud of all it.

One of my favourite R n B performers.

I 've seen him maybe 10 times from the New Orleans Jazz Festival to an NFL promoted show at the O2 when New Orleans Saints were playng at Wembley.

Unfortunately he d not been well for a few years but still a shock.

After the death of Dr John, a bad month for New Orleans music has tuned into a really rubbish month with the passing of the great Dave Bartholomew yesterday. One of the most important names in the Crescent City scene as bandleader, producer and composer, particularly in partnership with Fats Domino.

In the 90's my quiz team won the Tetleys CIU national club competition. For winning a semifinal the prize was a silver service hospitality day at the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter. John McCirick was a guest speaker. He "marked" our cards with likely the winners. I completely ignored him and proceeded to select 5 out of the 6 winners. Well free beer all day and a wad in my pocket it was the best days racing I have ever had.

The prize for winning the quiz grand final was supposed to be a weekend for 4 + plus partners in Paris. When we went up to collect our prize,  the compere  who was Gary Newbon the ITV sport reporter said " sotto voce", that there was a problem with the prize. Instead of the trip to Paris we were each  given £500 in Hogg Robinson travel vouchers. It paid for me and my wife for a week holiday in Lake Garda.

RIP,John McCrick racing on tv has has been a bore  since c4  sacked him.The female lost without him.

Agreed , that team of him and Fat Al , Francome etc had a laugh and made it entertainment as well as top racing coverage and analysis . Now you watch racing coverage on especially the specialist channels , and it’s as dry as a desert . Boring , anorak tv of stats , tedious over analysis and stats , and totally uncharismatic presenters droning on to cure insomnia without any humour or entertainment value half the time . Half of tv is making it interesting and entertaining ! Change and freshness is always for the better .  Viewing figures showed that to . Other thing about Big Mac was that he was always on the side of the punter and ordinary racegoer
