This is the last season for normal P & R.

On a side note isn't it great to see Wakefield V Castleford has sold out for their relegation scrap in what would otherwise be a completley dead rubber game that might attract just a couple of thousand fans. Just goes to show the drama that a battle like this can create. The only down side is it takes focus off the top of the table.

Yes, who else simply who can't wait for the excitement of someone at the RFL revealing the results of a contrived spreadsheet exercise to determine who will be in the top flight 🙄

It genuinely is good news that the game has sold out.

I assume, given that relegation battles are tremendous draws all the time, that this must be a regular occurrence for the sides at the bottom of the table.

I hope Sky are going to televise it as it should also be a great draw to the neutral viewers as well. Can't wait to see the viewing figures if they do.

It's on sky.

I don't think anyone's suggesting teams at the bottom pull in big crowds simply because they're in a relegation scrap, but a game where they're level on points with a local team also fighting to stay up is definitely a draw for fans - I think it's a fair point that if you take away P and R it feels like a dead rubber.

And the capacity is, relatively, tiny.

Fair comment - I just honestly think a lot of RL fans would prefer to watch this game in particular considering it as a big game in the context of P and R than just a bottom-of-the-table scrap, even if the bottom side would eventually be replaced under IMG "rules". The lack of a clear principle of P and R would just take away from it for me, although many people might disagree with that viewpoint too which is fair enough.

It's exciting for the fans of the teams involved but for the directors it's one game to determine next seasons finances and budgets and player recruitment plans which IMO is why clubs decided to move away from traditional P&R.

It'll be broadly in line with other SL games.

This fixture has never attracted 'just a couple of thousand fans' . It's a big local derby for both clubs . The reduced capacity is more the reason for the sell-out , however I do agree that with a full capacity available the fixture would have attracted more than were it just a league game with nothing to play for . There was a full capacity the last time we had this scenario at the end of the season , with Wakey winning to relegate Cas , although Cas didn't finish bottom that year . That said , there would have been a bigger attendance for this game even if it had been a dead-rubber , with a bigger capacity available,  than there will be on Friday , if you see what I mean.

Looks about right, source notwithstanding

Could be an interesting league in 2025. Think quite a few of the class of ‘23 will be looking over their shoulder. Leigh have will have done their chances no harm following last weekend.

I’d be surprised if Warrington weren’t in the mix, although Hull FC are likey a close 7 and Hull KR not much further behind.

I’d reckon that Warrington get in ahead of Hull based on stadium ownership, as I suspect their “success” and proximity to other teams is similar, although Warrington ahead again on that measure as well.

Any bets on the 6?

Hull FC/Leeds Rhinos/Wigan Warriors/St Helens/Catalans Dragons then any one from Warrington Wolves/Leigh Leopards/Huddersfield Giants/Hull KR

It'll be Warrington, Leigh will be a way off based on 2019-2022 data because it includes 2x Championship seasons(lower crowds, revenue, league position points) and only 1 SL season. Leigh's score won't be approaching an A until there are 3 SL season of data for the scoring, so end of 2025 at the earliest providing we continue to do well.

22 A and B grades… 2 leagues of 11, with cross division derby fixtures. Just sayin’

Super11 just doesn’t have the same ring to it though

If that’s true it should point to a reduction in the championship. Can’t be having too many C’s bringing it down. That would resolve a lot of the issues with fixtures down there

Nah surely SL of 12 and a Championship of 10.

Give the Band Cs motivation to step up to Bs to fill the remainder spots in the Championship, I propose.
Personally I feel the certain A's will be Wigan, Saints, Leeds.and Catalans

Probable A's-Warrington, Huddersfield and FC.

Inevitable B's, with aspirations for A's- Salford, KR, Toulouse, Leigh

Castleford, Wakefield, London, Newcastle, Widnes, York, Halifax, Sheffield, Featherstone, Bradford and another in or out of the B's.

The rest are C's.
