For me, a player few on here will have ever heard of, or even remember.

Terry Richardson the Castleford winger in the 1970’s.

He was in my brother's class at school.

Billy Boston.  The first game I attended was against Fev in January, 1964, at Central Park.  My mate, Ian Ibbotson from Atherton, took me.  He told me to watch out for Boston.

The first time the ball came to Boston, the pass to him was poor; it was a little behind him and above his head.  he got his fingertips to it, but the ball went into touch.  The second pass he received was perfect.  The Fev winger made a courageous attempt to tackle Boston, who was now at speed, but to no avail.  he was brushed aside as Billy touched down.

Wigan won and the Central Park faithful went home happy.

Boston was my first real superstar. Crowds would turn up just to watch him.  'Give it to Billy ' was a common call. He enthralled us and the anticipation  when he got the ball was enormous. He would win games on his own and he was consistent for years. Others causing that ' buzz' would be the likes of Jason Robinson and maybe Sam Tomkins and Jonny Lomax at their peaks.....

Tony Myler.

He still is.

He was my first favourite player that didnt play for my team alongside Harry Pinner, wish we still produced players like that, although we may do and its coached out of them

My first favourite player was probably Alva Drummond, Dessie's brother, he was quick as lightening and would have been a great player, if he could have caught the rugby ball! Danny Wilson was also up there, still probably the most naturally gifted player I have seen

Charlie Renilson, could tackle anything that moved and was pretty good with the ball too.

He used to come in my dad’s pub and always had a couple of bob for me

Anthony Farrell, he was a centre for Fartown when i 1st started watching, we sold him for a club record fee to Sheffield and i was devastated, soon after that came a bloke called Wally Gibson, he is still the most exciting player i've seen in Claret & Gold.
