Thought HKR was taking their usual 10000 ? 😩😂😂

Hull KR took 2,500. I can guarantee that Wigan, or any other club from the other side of the Pennines, have never brought that many in the opposite direction. Not once. Let alone on a Friday night with the motorway known to be shut for the journey way back.

Brilliant, you're a genius lad.

Couldn't get a note out a recorder as a kid.

You still had 22000 empty seats though.

Leigh will grow their crowds by clever targeting area like Bolton (Which i know is part of the plan) being just off the East Lancs road is quite a nice location for someone driving there.

This is where the growth of SL and RL in general should be happening before pushing elsewhere.
If clubs can target nearby towns and cities to attract spectators and increase the amount of junior clubs then they can hopefully increase attendances, viewing figures and junior playing numbers.

I’m sure Wigan and Leigh can tap into places like Bolton and Preston, Salford and maybe even Oldham into Manchester, Bury, Stockport with Warrington, Saints and Widnes pushing into Liverpool and Chester then even if they only influence a small percentage of the populations it still probably equates to decent numbers of new fans and junior players

Leigh should not only target the metropolitan borough of Bolton for fans but also players i.e. school coaching clinics at primary and secondary school levels.

Easier said than done, for example you need a shed load of money and qualified coaches don’t grow on trees either.

The old why don’t Saints take Liverpool discussion, can you start a new thread?

And now for something completely different. NRL attendances, including a 2000-24 comparison.

Thanks for the reminder link to your blog it's really informative.

On a Leeds specific note I do despair at the 2500 average fans we seem to have haemorrhaged in the past 5 years or so.

I remember in the last decade going to games and regularly seeing the 16 to 17k mark pushed, those levels seem very far away atm.

I didn’t say take Liverpool, I made a point of saying a small percentage of the towns and cities I mentioned. Don’t get a bee in your bonnet. It’s related to this thread as it could help increase attendances

Sorry I was only joking, and having re-read it didn’t come across well. There have been some absurd ideas about Liverpool on this forum before though.

No worries. My point was about just picking up some supporters from surrounding areas rather than converting towns and cities

800 sold today, so I guess a thousand will be coming. There's only so much money in people's wallets eh (or time off you can take). Really big game this one though, Leigh are one of the form sides I reckon. Couldn't call it myself.

I think there will be more than that to be honest.

The other 3 stands will be packed, so looking at another crowd of 9k + which will bolster Leighs average up even more.

Leighs last game v St Helens should be a sell out although a shame the capacity is reduced from 12000,

Real success story of the last 2 years that crowd growth. Obviously winning a trophy helps, but Degsy has really put in the effort to make it an event you want to be at. Some other teams need to take a look.

12,058 at Saints on Friday night, a huge pat on the back for the contingent who travelled over from Cas i hope you didn’t get home too late.
The gate was down -1,978 on last years loop fixture. A few of the stay aways went the game just to see Mata’utia for the last time. I think there are a number of reasons the gates are down at Saints in 2024, people have less cash, all the matches on live tv. But i still think the tactics the coach has served up in two years is the main reason. Woolf’s tactics were dreadful but we were winning, it’s totally different when you’re losing and you have to watch the dross that has been served up.

The less cash and all games live on TV apply to all teams though. Performance surely is the reason for the drop in crowds. When was the last time Saints needed to win their last game to qualify for post season?

Saints are pretty much already in the play offs even if technically it’s not mathematically done yet. Leeds would have to turnover a 162 pd to get in. Even if Saints lost by 40pts to Leigh they’d have to beat KR by 120+. Catalan are even further behind.

Saints are definitely in the playoffs.

Lose on Friday, it will be 6th and win it will be likely 4th.

I have a funny feeling Saints will want the latter and ensure Leigh are not at any party whatsoever and ensure we miss out.

Hopefully will be the main game and a sell out !

I feel sure that clubs have done and are still doing this sort of thing already. Are they also not, by inference, covered in the grading criteria?

There is a limit to the reach of each club, a saturation point, , and its a discussion topic that, for example, that the best Wigan could ever do is to return attendances to where they were in say the late 1980s, ot that Leigh have peaked in attracting lapsed fans.

The "Dark Ages" is a term referring to life at the RFL under the new regime. It's characterized by a decline in openness, professionalism, transparency and  achievements,

Good crowd considering the atrocious weather.

I suspect you overestimate the degree to which other clubs are constantly thinking about Leigh.
