Just to confirm so far we have Bedford and Goole as those who've shown an interest?

Whoever does come on board in League One will be made welcome.

Was going to ask same question. When did Edinburgh come into the mix?

And none of them were looked after properly by the Governing Body.

So true.  In fact Runcorn, Trafford & Nottingham were thrown under a bus by Maurice Lindsay.

Anglian Vipers were featured on BBC Sport as considering it.

For all the reasons discussed above, they'd have more chance of making a go of it than most of the other suggestions. Good luck to them.

But if the existing clubs do add another heartland team now, because they're desperate to lift the numbers, it'll only rekindle my anger at them refusing Manchester a little while back. What a missed opportunity.

(And no, I'm not letting it go! 🤣)

It was mentioned earlier in this Topic - might have been a joke etc  same as Dublin was mentioned on here

Without having to go through the entire thread - is there a list of clubs who have officially applied at this stage?

Bit lazy I know!

Good luck to Bramley.

Bedford, Goole and Bramley seem to have firm intentions to apply.

Good luck to all applicants, the issue is whether their are enough players to go round as the talent pipeline isn't what it used to be. Regarding the governing body, I couldn't name you one of the people in charge, where as at one time we knew some of those who were in office, but not now.

Where would Bramley play?

Throstle Nest in Farsley would probably be the best option - depending on approval for length of pitch, etc.

The RFL for the first time have opened up the application process  to all clubs regardless of geography, not just so called development areas.

Why ? Desperation maybe to ensure that League 1 can become more viable ? It appears on here at least to be  a common  view that the current situation  for League 1  is dire.

It is therefore no surprise that Bramley have thrown their hat into the ring.

Whether or not that is a good thing  is a matter of debate.

What is certain is that the clubs  so far mentioned  all play at very modest levels at Tier 5 in Division  3 or 4 of a Regional league, or in Bedford's case  at Tier 4  ( notionally at best ) in the SCL.

None have the facilities, little finance and even less of a player complement to leapfrog in general quality terms the 60+  clubs able to class themselves as Tier 4. , straight into Tier 3.

I can't blame them for their aspirations, which are admirable. Are they visionaries though or just dreamers ?

The RFL  have a big task on their hands to assess if any of these clubs  really have what it is going to take  - if they get it wrong another even bigger disaster for League 1 awaits...

As in Farsley Celtic's ground?

Yes. I don't have any inside knowledge or anything - it just strikes me as the best option in west Leeds.

Interesting that rugby union are in a similar boat with the need to sort out funding for tier 2 and whether to ring fence the premiership. The funding split is like 20:1 for prem teams. £3.3M vs £150k, or there abouts.

And here we are trying to maintain a third tier?! It’s bonkers. Has the RFL ever surveyed what the average resource required to run a team is? Have they similarly worked out what the average club revenue is from non central funding?

to be fair they need to look at the funding for the premiership too.. outside of Football there are issues with funding in almost every sport. the RFL really do need to do this though but they've been needing to do this for the past couple of years.

Sadly, if they start REALLY looking into clubs finances it could open up a massive can of worms, I don't think many would relish that happening. You only have to look at The Championship in the last few weeks, Halifax, Whitehaven, Featherstone, they are the ones we know about who are struggling, how do the likes of Sheffield manage with the little support they get in comparison to other clubs, I must say what Mark Aston and co have done there is nothing short of miraculous, you really have to take your hat off to him. I have nothing but respect for the majority of the people who do their utmost to keep all our clubs going but I am sure their are many more on the edge of the precipice.

IMHO for what its worth a club needs around £200K a year min,and also to be in a town where the locals can really get behind it and little or no competition from other sports (Apart from non league football which is pretty difficult to avoid)

I would be interested to know how Bedford think they can put together a competitive team and afford the travel costs associated with L1. Hope they have a plan as it would be good to have a southern(ish) club in L1 and only 40mins out of London.
