Being such a nice man with a lovely family just highlights what an awful disease MND is.
Rest in peace Rob.

Knowing it was going to happen doesn't lessen the sadness. What a horrible disease. My thoughts go to his family and friends, of which there are clearly very, very many within the game and beyond. In many ways the way he embodies so much about the sport as a whole. The little guy punching above his weight in a world of sporting giants. The underdog that fights to the end. Honest, humble and loyal.

Hopefully when so many people from all across the sport of rugby league unite at Wembley next weekend he's given the send off he deserves.

Rest in peace Rob.

Just got in and switched the television on just as the news was starting only to hear this as the headline story. As others have said, knowing that it was coming doesn't make it any easier.

RIP Rob

R.I.P. Rob a real battler on the rugby field and true battler with what life threw at him with this horrendous disease.

He will be remembered for his bravery on the field and his battle with MND later in life.

Condolences to his family and friends (especially Kevin Sinfield)and to all those at the Leeds club, players, former players, officials and supporters who will have had a special connection with Rob.

Sad day, a true legend as a player and human, inspirational person who faced lifes adversity the same way he played the game.

Just seen the incredibly sad news. It still came as a shock that he's left us so soon.

Reading social media he was a giant outside the sport too, had a massive impact on a lot of people that know nothing of his sporting career. It's very emotional reading the messages, the RFL have put it really well:

"Rob Burrow was an outstanding Rugby League player, for club and country. Since December 2019, his courage and humanity - allied to that of his family, friends and former Leeds Rhinos team-mates, led by Kevin Sinfield CBE - has transcended sport."

I saw him on the escalator at Junction 32 before the diagnosis and I do regret not going over and telling him all the joy he had brought from the way he played the game. The worry that his life may have been cut short by playing the game has also stuck with me.

Hopefully his memory and profile will continue to help push research into ways to prevent others in the future suffering from MND.

How very sad to hear the news. An absolute hero for many, many people. Both inside and outside RL. He provided many of us with fabulous memories of a lifetime.

I'll never forget him coming to our amateur club and being so humble, approachable and had the room full of people in the palm of his hand.

Rest in peace Beep Beep Burrow.

He achieved so much in his life and remained an inspiration to everyone.

I can only think of good wishes for his family today.

I remember the first time I saw him play, it was at Wilderspool and we instantly knew he was a special talent. That will firmly be my abiding memory of him.

It's very difficult to know what to say when dreadful news like this comes along but reading all the wonderful tributes on here and elsewhere makes you realise that the word "inspirational" may well have been invented for Rob Burrow.

RIP Rob, you were an absolute champion and hero to many, many people. xx

Mrs. Goose has just informed me of this horribly sad news. There are quite a few tears in the Goose Nest right now. One of the great players that I loved watching when I first got into the game, I'll always remember him. An absolute legend. RIP Rob. 😢 Xx

Great condolences to Rob's close family and Kevin Sinfield. Their grief must be overwhelming.

However, I'd rather die than end up like that. I don't think many people would think differently. He has been a great truly servant to the game , before and after his decline. And to humanity in general.

Let's remember him with great fondness and total respect, but I think what's happened today is for the best.
